Ο Γεώργιος Γαλανός είναι οικονομολόγος, Αναπληρωτής Καθηγητής με αντικείμενο «Οικονομική Πολιτική και Ανταγωνιστικότητα» στο Τμήμα Διεθνών και Ευρωπαϊκών Σπουδών του Πανεπιστημίου Πειραιώς. Γεννήθηκε στον Πειραιά και σπούδασε οικονομικά στο Πανεπιστήμιο Πειραιά . Κατέχει MBA focus in Tourism Management και Διδακτορικό Δίπλωμα με ειδίκευση στα Διεθνή Οικονομικά και Τουριστική Ανταγωνιστικότητα.  Είναι μέλος του Ακαδημαϊκού Συμβουλίου του Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies.

Έχει συμμετάσχει σε μεγάλο αριθμό διεθνών συνεδρίων και έχει δημοσιεύσει πληθώρα εργασιών σε επιστημονικά  περιοδικά και συλλογικούς τόμους με ζητήματα ONE, Οικονομική Κρίση , Κρίση διακυβέρνησης στην Ευρωζώνη , Άμεσες ξένες επενδύσεις.

Διαθέτει πολυετή εμπειρία, στη διοίκηση έργων και στην παροχή συμβουλευτικών υπηρεσιών στο δημόσιο και ιδιωτικό τομέα για την τεχνική και διοικητική διαχείριση και παρακολούθηση αναπτυξιακών έργων και ευρωπαϊκών και εθνικών προγραμμάτων. Διαθέτει πολύχρονη γνώση και εμπειρία στην οργάνωση και διοίκηση ομάδων έργου. Η εξειδίκευσή του καλύπτει τις ακόλουθες επιστημονικές περιοχές:
