Short Description: COVID-19 has changed the way we live, work and communicate. In a period of uncertainty concerning relations among the main actors of the international system, the pandemic brought about changes in transnational relations causing both energy and environmental readjustments and European leaders to reconsider their policies in order to effectively and responsibly respond to the pandemic's challenges. International organizations, such as the United Nations (UN), the World Bank (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), in the process of facing the consequences of COVID-19 for global economy, have been sounding the alarm on its impact on sustainable development, human rights and international peace.

The Department of International and European Studies of the University of Piraeus and the Council for International Relations, Greece co-organized an Online Conference on “COVID-19 and the next day” in Geopolitics, Economy and International Institutions, on Thursday, July 2, 2020 (18:00-21: 00 EEST) with free registration and participation to the public and reputable speakers and experts addressed relevant questions in two panels. Have the COVID-19 developments affected the course of economic and monetary policy so far? What are the prospects for economic recovery and debt sustainability under the circumstances, especially concerning the world's poorest countries? Are there any prospects for the pandemic to trigger more cooperation, social developments and environmental balance? What are the potentials for the EU, the IMF and the WB to set a leading example for international relations, financial governance and institutions? The Online Conference, available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gj9hLx_WByo , resumed with a round table discussion on Greek economy and foreign policy.
